Zheng Han, a 2021 master’s graduate, spoke as a representative of the graduating postgraduate students. Reflecting on her three years at Shenzhen University, she reminisced about the transformative moments: “The tassel moves from right to left, brushing away fleeting time and youthful inexperience”. No matter where life takes them, the experiences at the Faculty of Education will remain deeply etched in their hearts, transforming their beliefs, virtues, knowledge, and passion into the strength needed to forge ahead in life.
Xu Baoying, a 2020 undergraduate in Educational Technology (Teacher Training), spoke on behalf of the graduating undergraduates. She shared her journey of stepping out of her comfort zone and exploring uncharted territories during her college years, from innovation and entrepreneurship to academic competitions. Through repeated challenges and rebirths, she learned resilience. As a new chapter of youth begins, she pledged to always remember the “Three Selves” spirit—self-reliance, self-discipline, and self-improvement—and to become a diligent, pragmatic, and enterprising individual.
In his address, Jin Yule extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the graduates embarking on a new journey. Delivering their “final lesson” titled Strive to Be Disciplined Newcomers of the Era, he quoted, “To know what is straight, one must use a ruler; to understand what is round, one must use a compass”. He emphasized that discipline is essential for knowing what to do and what not to do, what one can and cannot achieve. Referencing Shenzhen University’s motto of “self-discipline”, he stressed that true accomplishment requires intrinsic motivation and self-restraint, not external enforcement. By embedding discipline into their hearts and transforming it into a way of life, graduates can become idealistic, capable, and responsible citizens of the new era. Finally, he urged the graduates to “make learning a top priority—a responsibility, a spiritual pursuit, and a way of life—while embracing the notion that dreams start with learning, and careers are built on skills”
The summer solstice symbolizes a feast of youth, and dreams represent invitations to the future. Graduation marks the beginning of a new voyage, and youth is the most vibrant chapter of life. We wish the 2024 graduates of the Faculty of Education a bright future as they bid farewell to their alma mater and step into a broader world, carrying the energy of Shenzhen University and embracing the wonders of life.
