About the Faculty:
The Faculty of Education was originated in 1947 and established in 2018. In 1947, Bao’an Jianshi was founded; in 1959, Bao’an Normal School was founded, and in 1984, it was upgraded to Shenzhen Normal College; in 1994, Normal College of Shenzhen University was founded with the approval of Guangdong Provincial People’s Government. In 1995, Normal College set up 7 departments including Chinese, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry & Biology, Education, and Art. In 2006, the departments of Chinese, Mathematics, English, Physics, and Chemistry & Biology were integrated into Shenzhen University and became the corresponding independent schools. Normal College has thus developed into a comprehensive school based on normal education and featuring art and physical education. In 2014, the Department of Psychology was merged into the School of Psychology and Society. In 2018, the School of Psychology was merged into the Normal College (Faculty of Education), consisting of the School of Education, the School of Psychology, the School of Physical Education and the Affiliated Education Group. In January 2022, Normal College of Shenzhen University (Faculty of Education) was restructured and the Faculty of Education of Shenzhen University was established.
The Faculty of Education consists of the School of Education, the Institute of Education, the School of Teacher Development, the Office of Party and Government Affairs, the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of Discipline and Scientific Research, the Office of Student Affairs, the Center of Joint Education (affiliated to the Party and Government Office), and the Center of Teaching Ability Development (affiliated to the Office of Academic Affairs). The School of Education consists of the Department of Education, the Department of Education Information Technology, the Department of Preschool Education, and the Center of Teaching Experiment. The Institute of Education consists of the Bay Area Institute of Education, the Research Center for Basic Education and Teacher Development, the Institute of Higher Education, the Institute of Curriculum and Instruction, the Institute of Preschool Education and the Research Center for Intelligent Education. The School of Teacher Development is mainly responsible for the education management of graduate students with professional degrees and the continuing education of teachers.
The Faculty of Education now has more than 50 full-time teachers, including 24 professors and associate professors, 23 assistant professors and 5 doctoral supervisors; and has more than 30 teachers with doctoral degree, reflecting a high international level of teaching resources. Among the teachers, there are national cultural masters identified by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, national famous teachers, recipients of special government allowances from the State Council, provincial famous teachers, Shenzhen national leading talents and local leading talents, Shenzhen “Peacock Program” talents, provincial excellent teachers, Li Yuan leading scholars of Shenzhen University, etc.
The Faculty of Education has two undergraduate majors (Preschool Education, and Education Technology), and master’s degree programs for first-level subjects in education, jointly trains doctoral students with City University of Macau, and recruits doctoral students in developmental and educational psychology for the doctoral program of psychology. Currently, there are more than 480 undergraduates and 430 master students. In 2018, it was approved to establish a national teacher education innovation pilot zone in Guangdong Province. In 2019, the education subject of Shenzhen University ranked among the top 24% on the list of the best subjects in China (Shanghai Ranking).
Based on the pioneering demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the Faculty of Education actively carries out scientific research and social services to meet the major development needs of the country and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. It undertakes key projects of National Social Science Fund and other projects at all levels, and has won the Outstanding Achievement Award in Scientific Research of Higher Institutions (Humanities and Social Sciences) by the Ministry of Education, National Outstanding Achievement Award in Educational Scientific Research, National Teaching Achievement Award (Basic Education), Provincial Outstanding Achievement Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences, etc. Meanwhile, it has continued to deepen the partnership mechanism between institutions, create a multi-level social service organization model, build a think tank of high-level experts in the field of education from home and abroad, actively carry out international education cooperation and exchanges, participate in the formulation of major education reform plans in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and Shenzhen, and strive to provide consultation and guidance services for the high-quality development of basic education and higher education.
The Faculty of Education adheres to facing the frontier of education subjects, facing the main battlefield of education development, facing the major national educational needs, and facing the satisfaction of the people, seizes the great opportunities brought by the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and the pilot demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics, follows the “international, elitist and individualized” development concept, and takes subject construction as the foundation and high-quality development as the core, striving to build an innovative, demonstrative and high-level research-oriented faculty with a good reputation and significant influence at home and abroad.
