In the morning of April 8, 2023, to celebrate the 40thanniversary of Shenzhen University, the Faculty of Education held an event of lectures by renowned scholars in Section D of International Conference Hall. Professor Wu Zhihui gave a lecture entitled "The Revitalization of Rural Education and the Task of Teacher Education". The lecture was hosted by Professor Zhao Mingren, Deputy Director of the Faculty of Education, and the relevant teachers and students of the Faculty of Education attended the lecture.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Wu Zhihui pointed out that, to build a modern socialist country in an all-round way and realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, the most arduous task is still in rural areas; to revitalize rural areas, the key lies in talent and education. Then, Professor Wu Zhihui elaborated on the key points of rural education revitalization from the three aspects: Chinese style,local flavor and modernization. He emphasized that the essence of rural revitalization is not to remove the local or rural elements, and that rural areas contain the roots of Chinese-style education. Professor Wu Zhihui held that we should not blindly learn from the western concept of modernization. He took the modernization of rural education as an example and pointed out thatwe must follow the basic principles of Marxism as a guide and revitalize rural areas with Chinese-style education.
Professor Wu Zhihui stressed that the country should cultivate a group of excellent teachers for rural areas. For a long time, problems such as insufficient number, low quality and poor stability of rural teachers have restricted the improvement of rural education quality. As such, he proposed to build a team of high-quality teachers who love rural education and consciously integrate into rural society. In addition, Professor Wu Zhihui also said that the task of teacher education for rural areas is to firmly take root in the earth of China, go to rural areas, andimplement rural culture through the whole process of education.
In the end, Professor Zhao Mingren made a summary. He pointed out that the report was highly theoretical and had profound practical and strategic significance, which could help us better understand the role of rural education in the development of Chinese-style modernization.
