In the morning of April 10, 2023, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Shenzhen University, the Faculty of Education held an event of lectures by renowned scholars in Section A of International Conference Hall. Professor Lyu Lijie, Head of the Faculty of Education of Northeast Normal University, gave a lecture entitled "Curriculum Structuring Reform: Connotation, Value and Implementation Direction". The lecture was hosted by Professor Li Chen, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Faculty of Education, and the relevant teachers and students of the Faculty of Education attended the lecture.
Professor Lyu Lijie first explained the connotation and reform of the curriculum structuring, and summarized the overall changes of compulsory education curriculum and the content structure changes of each subject. She pointed out that the new curriculum plan for 2022 emphasizes the need to adhere to the literacy orientation, strengthen discipline practice, promote comprehensive learning, and implement individualized education.
Then, Professor Lyu elaborated profoundly on the meaning of curriculum structuring. She held that in the new era of rapid development of science and technology, it is particularly necessary to cultivate talents with innovation, learning and transfer ability, and to cultivate these talents, we should adhere to the core literacy orientation and help students master the basic structure of the curriculum. This is also the common trend of international curriculum reform.
Professor Lyu finally indicated the practical path of curriculum structuring, that is, unit teaching design focusing on big concepts. She pointed out that the teaching design for big units should take the core literacy goal as the teaching viewpoint, and take the unit as the whole to arrange the teaching objective, content structure, learning style, resource system, operating system and evaluation method. Bigunits can either be the units presented in the textbook, or the textbook unit contents can be reorganized in line with the curriculum standards according to the actual needs. By teaching in big units, teachers can help students form a complete learning experience, establish associations between knowledge, and generate core literacy.
In the end, Professor Li Chen made a summary of the lecture. He held that Professor Lyu Lijie's lecture was "fresh", "practical" and "profound", with systematic and rich contents. During the lecture, Professor Lyu illustrated the connotation, value and implementation direction of the curriculum structuring reform in combination with vivid cases, which has a high reference value for the study and research of curriculum and instruction.
