In the afternoon of March 27, 2023, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Shenzhen University, the Faculty of Education held an event of lectures by renowned scholars in Section D of International Conference Hall. Professor Ding Gang gave a lecture entitled "From Gifted to Basic Discipline: How to Improve the Top-notch Talent Training System". The lecture was hosted by Professor Cao Xiaoming, Deputy Director of the Faculty of Education, and the relevant teachers and students of the Faculty of Education attended the lecture.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Ding Gang pointed out that from the perspective of the whole top-notch talent training system, we should fully recognize the necessity of early discovery and cultivation of gifted children. Professor Ding Gang elaborated on the measures to improve the top-notch talent training system from three aspects: gifted policy and promotion, top-notch reserve talents in basic education stage, and top-notch talent plan in higher education. He emphasized that the cultivation of top-notch talents should take into account the connection between basic education and higher education. Then, he took the pilot reform of enrollment for basic disciplines as an example, and pointed out that the reform has made great contributions to the cultivation of top-notch talents in line with national strategic needs.
Meanwhile, Professor Ding Gang held that as a mature program for cultivating top talents, it should consider students' advantages in subjects and majors, as well as their individual academic abilities and interests. He stressed that gifted education is not an elite education, and education equity can only be reflected when different students are taught according to their aptitude. From gifted to basic discipline, Professor Ding Gang said that the connotation of top-notch talents has undergone the evolution from compound talents, interdisciplinary talents to interdisciplinary leading talents, among which the development needs of interdisciplinary integration is a must. Therefore, cultivating a group of tops, first-class, interdisciplinary leading figures should become an important element of top-notch talent training.
In the end, Professor Li Chen, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Faculty of Education, made a summary of the lecture. He said that the lecture was detailed and meaningful, which would help us understand the significance of top-notch innovative talent training, and give consideration to the efficiency and fairness of top-notch talent training in practice, so as to build a perfect top-notch talent training system.
