I. About the School
The School of Education is developed on the basis of the former education subjects of Normal College, and has a solid historical accumulation. In 1995, Normal College was founded and the Department of Education was established. Later, other departments and institutes were set up. It has successively been approved to hold master’s degree programs in Curriculum and Instruction (2003), Higher Education (2006), Education Technology (2006), the master’s degree program in education (2008), and the master’s degree program in education for first-level subjects (2010). In 2018, the School of Education was established, and in the same year, it was approved to establish a national teacher education innovation pilot zone in Guangdong Province. The School of Educationhas two undergraduate majors (Preschool Education, and Education Technology), and master’s degree programs for first-level subjects in education, and jointly trains doctoral students with City University of Macau. Currently, there are more than 480 undergraduates and 430 master students. Guided by the modern university concept, based on moral cultivation, and with internationalization and information as its two wings, the School of Education continues to promote the connotation construction, and strives to build the School of Education into a key town of talent training, an educational theoretical research highland and a social service base with “the style of the Special Zone, the characteristics of the Bay Area and the excellencein China”.
II. United and Forging Teaching Staff
The teaching staff’s age structure, major structure and learning-origin structure are reasonable. There are 48 full-time teachers in our school, including 25 professors and associate professors, 11 lecturers and assistant professors, and 32 doctors, accounting for 67% of the total; 6 doctoral supervisors, accounting for about 13%, and 34 master supervisors, accounting for about 71%; 11 teachers graduated from overseas colleges and universities, accounting for 23%.
With a high international level of teaching resources, a large number of doctors have overseas study or visiting background. There are 12 Shenzhen high-level overseas talents and Shenzhen high-level professional talents. In the past 3 years, it has won 47 young teachers’ lecture competition and annual teaching awards, 38 teaching research and reform projects at all levels, 40 teaching ability improvement programs, and 35 prizes in the national UOOC Alliance Online Open Course Award, Guangdong Famous Teachers’ Courses - National Excellent Course Award, President Teaching Award nomination, etc.
III. High-level Talent Training System
The school actively implements the fundamental task of cultivating virtues and talents, adapts to the new situation of developing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and the pioneering socialist demonstration zone, and has formed a new model of whole-staff, whole-process and all-dimensional education in line with the characteristics of educational subjects. At present, the State is vigorously promoting the “New Normal” of future-oriented education, among which special emphasis is placed on the construction of a new practical teaching mechanism integrating “teaching, research and training”. Theschool has specially set up an experimental and training center for teachers’ vocational skills, including a series of experimental and training environments for vocational ability cultivation, such as microteaching training room, language skills training room, writing skills training room, remote teaching observation room, mandarin proficiency testing center, seminar room, etc., and education practice bases in 20 primary and secondary schools, with provincial education technology laboratories.
IV. Continuous and Fruitful Scientific Research Achievements
Teachers actively undertake national, provincial and ministerial-level and consulting research projects, which have produced a wide range of social impacts. In the past five years, thefaculty has undertaken 7 national projects and 25 provincial projects; and 34 scientific research and teaching achievements have been awarded, including 6 national ones. In terms of paper publishing, faculty teachers have published 102 high-quality academic papers in international and domestic authoritative and core journals, including 21 SCI/SSCI papers and nearly 70 CSSCI academic papers. It has formed significant academic advantages and great influence in the fields of curriculum theory and practice, higher education, education technology, teacher education and so on. A number of professors serve as members of the Basic Education Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, experts on the compulsory education curriculum reform, and vice chairmen and executive directors of several societies.
V. Simultaneous Local Services
In view of the development needs of the State and the Greater Bay Area, the school gives full play to the strengths of education subjects, deepens the partnership mechanism among institutions, and forms a multi-tiered social service organization model. In the past five years, it has actively provided decision-making consultation for the government in formulating relevant policies, regulations and development plans, and provided strong support for exploring the creation of an educational collaborative innovation development system that matches the construction of a world-class Greater Bay Area. It has participated in the preparation plans for the establishment of Bay Area United University, Bay Area Education University and Shenzhen Normal University, and in the development of Shenzhen’s Three-Year Action Plan for Preschool Education and the Outline of Shenzhen’s Advanced Demonstration Plan for Education.
