I. About the Department of Preschool Education
The Department of Preschool Education is developed on the basis of the former Department of Preschool Teachers of Shenzhen Education College. At present, it cultivates undergraduate students majoring in preschool education, academic graduate students majoring in preschool education and full-time professional master students majoring in preschool education. Since 2003, Normal College of Shenzhen University has enrolled students with bachelor’s degree in preschool education under the category of arts. In March 2020, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the preschool education major in Normal College of Shenzhen University. In June of the same year, the Department of Preschool Education enrolled the first batch of undergraduates majoring in preschool education. The graduate training of preschool education began in 2012, when Normal College began to enroll the first batch of academic master students in preschool education under the first-level subjects, and then began to enroll the first batch of professional master students in preschool education in 2016. At present, there are more than 240 undergraduates and more than 60 master students. Under theguidance of the new concept of preschool education,the Department of Preschool Education has actively absorbed advanced international educational experience and become a major center for training international and innovative preschool teachers in theGuangdong-Hong Kong-MacauGreater Bay Area.
I. Teaching Staff
The Department of Preschool Education has 11 teachers, including 1 professor, 1 associate professor, 3 assistant professors, 4 lecturers and 2 trainee lecturers. 5 of them have obtained doctoral degrees, accounting for 45% of the total; there are 5 master supervisors, accounting for 45%; 3 teachers graduated from overseas universities, accounting for 27%.
Teachers from the Department of Preschool Education have been engaged in teaching and research in the field of preschool education for a long time, and many of them serve as the chairman and executive director of the national, provincial and municipal academic committees for preschool education.As national outstanding supervisors for masters of education and excellent educators in Shenzhen, the teachers guide the research work of kindergarten projects in Guangdong Province and Shenzhen, and have made great contributions to the formulation of preschool education policies and the research of education and teaching in Guangdong Province and Shenzhen.
II. Talent Training System
In order to implement the central government’s spirit of “building Shenzhen into a pilot demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics, running pre-school education with high standards”, to promote the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area to achieve the goal of “good education for children”, and to meet the urgent demand for excellent teachers in kindergartens throughout the province, especially in Shenzhen, the Department of Preschool Education, according to the new concept of preschool education, actively absorbs international advanced education experience, take the initiative to align national and regional preschool education development strategies,and train comprehensive and applied preschool teachers, preschool education researchers and preschool education administrators who love the cause of preschool education, have international vision, noble moral quality and good scientific, cultural and artistic accomplishment, and have comprehensive quality, broad knowledge, sustainable development potential, innovation spirit and practical ability.
The Department of Preschool Education has first-class teaching facilities and equipment, including digital piano room, dance room, art and crafts room, Orff teaching experience room, Montessori Children’s Home, children’s picture book library and other laboratories. It has established educational internship and curriculum practice bases with 3 affiliated kindergartens of Shenzhen University and 10 provincial-level kindergartens in Shenzhen.
III. Scientific Research Achievements
In the past five years, teachers of the Department of Preschool Education have undertaken 8 provincial and ministerial-level projects; published nearly 20 high-quality academic papers in international and domestic authoritative and core journals; won the best choreographer award at the 11th “Xiaohe Style” National Children’s Dance Performance. Meanwhile, the Department of Preschool Education has an excellent team of instructors. In the past three years, they have instructed the students to win the first, second and third prizes in Guangdong Normal College Teaching Skills Competition for undergraduate students, and win gold and silver awards in various piano and dance competitions for many times.
IX. Local Services
In the past five years, teachers of the Department of Preschool Education have actively providd decision-making consultation for the government to formulate relevant policies, regulations and development plans, and take charge of or participate in the development of Guangdong Province’s guidelines for strengthening the construction and management of kindergartens in residential supporting communities, Shenzhen’s three-year action plan for preschool education, Shenzhen’s curriculum guidelines for kindergartens and Shenzhen’s kindergarten nursery management guidelines.
